Deciding to make the commitment...

My husband and I have always worked out and eaten (somewhat) healthy - well, let's say we know how to eat healthy, but actually doing it, wasn't a daily thing. We both have a raging sweet tooth that gets the best of us A LOT. I could seriously eat candy all day, every day, if it wasn't detrimental to my health. With that said, although exercise and proper nutrition have always been a part of our lives (we met at the healthclub where we both worked out, and I worked, over ten years ago), life happens. We grow up, life gets busy, especially once you graduate from college, get married, work full-time, have two children, a house to keep up, and so on...if you're reading this blog, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Well, we swore to never let it happen to us - you know, we thought we'd always go to the gym every day... um, yeah, we were wrong. Once baby #1 came along, the workouts decreased...then we relocated for my husband's job, and were out of our comfort zone and didn't really care for our new gym, so our workouts basically stopped. We cancelled our membership. However, we said we'd go to the park and run. Didn't happen. Too many excuses - after work it was too late b/c the baby needed to go to bed, we were tired from the day, couldn't do it on the weekend b/c we were going out of town, the excuses are endless. My husband started mentioning P90X. I was skeptical. Very skeptical...and pregnant. So we kept pushing off ordering the program and getting started. The original goal was to start in early 2010, but like I said, I was pregnant, and wanted to wait until I could give it 100% - maybe when baby #2 was two months old. Yeah right. By then I was back to work, we had a newborn and an almost two-year-old. Soooo we made the commitment to start in January 2011. At this point, we were both geared up for it, and started planning for success. We were both ready to get our healthy eating habits and motivation to workout back. First thought, how in the world can I dedicate myself to this, when I have a baby who goes to bed at 10:30 p.m. So my first goal was to get his bedtime to be 7 p.m. (along with his sister), so we started moving his bedtime earlier and earlier, and by mid-January, he was going down with his sister. By this time he was six months old, so it was very doable. Remember that - timing is so important. Don't set yourself up for failure. Make sure it's the right time to start. For example, I love to eat, especially at the holidays, so I would never start in October (mmm...candy), November (let the feasting begin), December (holiday parties..give me a break). For me, that would not be a good time to start P90X and be very successful - think about things like that. Okay.. let me get back on track. So we ordered the program, and reviewed the diet and workouts for a week or two, while we waited on our dial up weights (we love these!) to be delivererd, and then set up a great little gym in our garage. Finally, DAY 1 had arrived - 1/17/11 - let the challenge begin!!

Writer's block....

I have been attempting to write my first post for this blog for a couple weeks now. I have so much to say and share, I don't know where to start. My intention of this blog, is simply to share my husband's and my P90X story. I want other busy people to realize that it can be done. When you think you can't put one more thing on your plate, trust me, there is room for a healthy lifestyle. It takes some organizing, planning ahead & dedication, but it's well worth it. I am the type of person who thrives on having way too many things to do, and I welcome a challenge. I hope you can take some of our tips, and make it happen. You will be glad you did. Continue to check-in to see how we progress.

Until next time...
